Citizen Engagement Meeting held at Smart Placemaking Site; Citizens of Baner-Balewadi Admire the Move
Smart Citizen Engagement Motivates Healthy Discussions between Citizens and PSCDCL
Citizen Engagement, an initiative of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL) becomes even smarter with the engagement moving out from the meeting hall to the Smart Placemaking site. Citizens of Baner-Balewadi area admired the move of the Smart City. Citizens of this area praised and gave a round of applause on getting positive and considerate responses from the Smart City officials.
Citizen Engagement Meeting for Citizens of Aundh-Baner-Balewadi (ABB) area was held at the placemaking site- ‘Renew’ in Baner which is developed by Pune Smart City. The meeting was addressed by Mr. Manojit Bose, Chief Knowledge Officer (CKO), PSCDCL. Citizens in good number from various parts of ABB area were present at the meeting.
While explaining various concepts of Smart City Mission to the citizens, CKO Mr. Manojit Bose said, “Pune Smart City will not stop and will keep moving with frequent Citizen Engagement forums and activities to collaborate with Punekars and co-create Smart City projects. We will open mindedly keep on listening to the citizens’ concerns and take them into consideration for further actions. Thus, citizens get an opportunity of direct participation in the development process. This initiative is one of its kind in the country.”
Dr. Rajendra Jagtap, Chief Executive Officer, PSCDCL was quoted saying, “We want to make Smart developments that would suit the Pune city’s character by keeping the ‘Puneri’ identity intact. So, we try to make the Citizens Engagement initiative more open and participatory to make the development more inclusive and effective.”
PSCDCL officials listened to citizens of Baner-Balewadi and took note of their suggestions and concerns regarding various projects being implemented as a part of Area Based Development under Pune Smart City scheme. PSCDCL organizes Citizen Engagement meetings on every first and third Saturday of every month to receive feedback and suggestions of citizens regarding ongoing and proposed projects of the Smart City. Common citizen engagement meeting for Aundh, Baner and Balewadi on first Saturday and separate decentralized meeting for each local area of Aundh, Baner and Balewadi is held on third Saturday.
Recently, Additional Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and National Director of Smart City Mission Dr. Sameer Sharma made a visit to Pune, who took a special note of Pune Smart City’s initiative of Citizen Engagement. He lauded the initiative mentioning that this is a unique and praiseworthy initiative by PSCDCL among other smart cities.
PSCDCL has developed two Smart placemaking sites in Baner namely ‘Renew’ and ‘Energize’. The two placemaking sites are based on the theme of “e-Learning and Skill Development” and “Leisure and Meditation” respectively. First placemaking site- Renew comprises of circular rope seating, water fountain, bollard lighting, solar tree, interactive human platform, solar seater along with charging points, swings, totem pole, wi-fi hostspots, LED pedestrian light, semi carved workshop area, amphi theatre and basketball court among other attractions. The second place-making comprises of laptop benches, Kids Play and Outdoor fitness area, Gazebo Seating Yoga Fitness Area among other attractions.
