Curiosity for the Pune smART Week reaches the Peak
Pune– Punekars are gearing up for the upcoming Pune smART Week starting tomorrow 14th February 2019. This 10 day event is organized by Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited (PSCDCL). The event promises an array of programs, events, workshops, competitions and installations in the field of art & design, dance & music, films & theatre and other media. Pune smART week endeavours to transform the public venues, cultural centres and parks in the heart of the city, into creative places for everyone and anyone to come together, connect and celebrate, for people across all age-groups, professional backgrounds and economic strata. All the events are absolutely free for all.
Dr. Rajendra Jagtap, CEO, Pune Smart City said “We, at PSCDCL wish to connect with the common citizens at all levels, and not just at the infrastructural level. We have undertaken several endeavours to go the extra step in achieving our long term goal of being a people-centric development initiative and rebuilding a city that is smart and sustainable. Further to this objective, we have planned a 10-day long activity, with predominant 7 days termed as Pune smART Week starting from 14th February to the 24th February of 2019.”
Through creative art, it aims to encourage the people to come out of their digitally enclosed world, and into the open spaces where people can creatively interact and enjoy. The Pune smART week would be hosted at venues that are at the centre of the city, including Jangli Maharaj Road, Bal Gandharva, Sambhaji Park, Ferguson college Road, Raja Ravi Varma Gallery, Ghole Road, Police Parade Ground, etc.
Pune smART Week has “ART FOR ALL”. A quick round-up of events is as follows:
ART & DESIGN: Begins with a tribute to Raja Ravi Varma, and further includes Pratibimb – live portrait demos, ArtArch festival for college students, children’s drawing competition, a collaborative extravaganza with Shri Achyut Palav and various performing artists, a collage of children’s ideas on Smart Pune, water-colouring workshop by artist Milind Mulick and group, and an open platform for one of the biggest street art exhibitions with more than 200 artists.
FILMS & THEATRE: Features Prashant Damle’s comedy drama – Eka Lagnachi Pudhchi Goshta, a satirical play – Cafe Alibaba, open-air theatre showcasing various plays and movies, and an open mic for budding public speakers.
DANCE & MUSIC: Performances by the esteemed artists including Piyush Mishra, Shama Bhate, Sandip Khare, Vaibhav Joshi, Savani Ravindra, Pandit Pushkar Lele and the likes, and a hi-tech interactive musical wall for people to create music through touch.
WORKSHOP & DEMOS: A host of workshops including hand lettering, photography, doodling, design thinking, film-making, and demos by various artists.
LITERATURE & TALK: Inspiring historic stories and knowledge sharing by various speakers across diverse subjects including Temples of Pune, Shivaji & Management, Caves & Other Monuments, Forts of Maharashtra, and more.
GRAND EVENTS: Grand performances including Manganiyaar Folk fusion, Bhadipa Standup Comedy and Pandit
Niladri Kumar’s Sitar Funk.
And there’s more – flower festival, literature fest and food & craft mela.
