Pune City is Looking smART already with Various Art Installations

Pune : Pune City is looking smarter already with various art installations, sculptures and photo points across FC Road and JM Road. After the inauguration of Smart Pune city installation, the Tunnel of Future, and the Musical Wall, FC Road experienced another monumental art installation for the Inter college Art Arch Competition. Till date many witnessed them create the master pieces around these arcs with their rich and creative ideations. The much awaited fest was inaugurated at the hands of Professor Dhimant Panchal – Director & H.O.D. Pre-design Foundation at MAEER’s MIT Institute of Design, Pune, Architect Sanjeev Joshi of Urban Sketchers fame and Artist Sujata Dharap. These creations are already a much talked about centres of attraction for people at the Pune SmART Week Fest.

The divine performance by Kathak Guru Shama Bhate on Krishna – the liberator, left the audience in awe, with stunning revelations of an array of leelas from the life of Lord Krishna. The evening was made even more surreal for the audiences at the One Sky Concert – an artistic mélange of music, dance and painting – by international artists Prem Joshua & Band, Bodhi Kranti and Zen Vartan.

G B Deglurkar’s talk on the Temples of Pune created a lot of interest among the audience. As the rarely known facts of the temples were revealed, the participants saw these monuments in a completely new light. The fun-filled doodle art workshop by Aditi Deo was house-full with people across all age groups have fun with their pens and illustrations.

Today, on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti, citizens can witness a patriotic artvaganza called “Shiv Mudra” on J M Road from 4 pm onwards.  Watch the internationally renowned calligrapher and artist – Achyut Palav – and his team create signature art for Shiv Mudra, merging valor and strength through his paint and brush on a whopping 40 feet x 40 feet canvas. The city is expected to vibrate with the soaring spirit of patriotism, as 25 brave girls from Shiv Sanskar Prathishtan, Kolhapur would be demonstrating their “Mardani Khel” – a weapon-based Maharashtrian Martial art. Watch them perform dare-devil stunts with swords and shields, lathis and dand-pattaa, and other traditional weapons and combating skills from the period of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj in this 45 minutes of high-energy presentation. Joining in would be the renowned Shahir Krushnat Patil from Kolhapur, with his roaring Powada performance that highlights the heroism of Shivaji Maharaj. Shiv Mudra is expected to attract more than a thousand people. Be there as the Pune SmART Week pays a tribute to the heroic leader of Maharashtra.

For those who love art through cinema, Pune smART Week celebrated The Classics and The Contemporary Film Fest at NFAI, showcasing critically acclaimed movies across generations. Yesterday the audience watched the timeless classic Navrang by the great V. Shantaram, and the new age film CRD by the national award winning director Kranti Kanade. Today, at NFAI, watch the classic – Gulacha Ganpati – by Maharashtra’s beloved and legendary P. L. Deshpande at 3 pm. Under contemporary cinema the fest would showcase the critically acclaimed movie that has been officially approved for Oscar screening – Gajendra Ahire’s Dear Molly – at 7 pm.

In the morning at 10:30, Parthajeet Sarma – the design thinking guru, and the author of the famous book “Smart Phones Dumb People” – would be conducting design thinking workshop for art and design enthusiasts. This workshop at Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery will take the participants through the process of design thinking and human-centric methodologies.

The day continues with the theme of Shiva Jayanti with a series of interesting talks by noted historian Dr. Ajit Apte explaining the Management Strategies of Shivaji at 2 pm, and archeology expert Dr. Manjiri Bhalerao covering the topic of Rock-cut Architecture & Caves at 5 pm at Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium.
