Asset Management System for Road Network in Pune City

A technical cum operational method for managing, directing and controlling road maintenance resources, in a scientific manner, for optimum benefits to the city. Target road network length is ~2000 km. There will be two main phases in project implementation.

Phase I – Data Collection and Validation

  • Collection of road inventory in a digital format and superimposition with the enterprise GIS format being followed for smart city projects.
  • Data collection will be repeated in year 2 and year 3 again after the start of the assignment and year 1 data will be updated accordingly.

Phase II – Stage A

  • Development of Road Asset Management System, a customized software solution as the decision-making tool for Asset Management.
  • Training to PSCDCL/PMC department nominees on using the software and continued support.

Phase II – Stage B

  • Selection and deployment of a Pavement Management System

Current Status

Data collection parameters are finalized. The road inventory surveys are planned to start by October 2017. 60% road maintenance historic data has been collected from different ward office of Pune city to feed into the software. Workshops with engineers of Road Department of PMC are completed. Demonstration of special vehicle for digital inventory data collection of road network is scheduled in September 2017. Development of Tab application for data updation is completed. Sub-structure road data collected for about 500 locations in the city. Software Requirement Specification document is prepared along with comparative for PMS software.

Uniqueness of the Project

The project aims towards establishing an automated mechanism for management of roads as an asset, aiming towards reducing manual intervention in decision making.
