Pune Smart City Reaches Out To Housing Societies for Awareness Through Citizens Engagement Program
Pune: A public awareness campaign is being carried out for the smart city projects under Pune Smart City Mission. Started with the idea of Chief Executive Officer of Pune Smart City Mission, Dr. Rajendra Jagtap, this initiative is being implemented in many societies in Baner, Aundh, Balewadi area. The purpose behind this is to discuss the different concepts of development with the citizens.
The next phase of this Citizens Engagement campaign was started recently in Sayali Garden Society and Harsh Vihar-B Society in Aundh. Through this initiative, concepts and ideas of the Smart City projects and related work will be explained to citizens. Also, suggestions from citizens will be taken into consideration to resolve their problems. In this way, citizens will be directly participating in the development work of smart city, so that inclusive development of the city will take place. Right from children to senior citizens all can participate in this initiative.
Through this initiative, citizens will get an opportunity to participate in the Pune Smart City Mission directly or indirctly. Also, various suggestions will be considered for implementing new concepts. Under the Pune Smart City Mission, various schemes are being implemented in Baner, Aundh, Balewadi. Now this innovative initiative has been added to complement the Smart City projects.
Chief Executive Officer of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited Dr. Rajendra Jagtap said, “Pune Smart City projects have received appreciation at national level even by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. We have been able to achieve a lot due to the encouraging and positive response from citizens of Pune. Citizen engagement initiative will be useful at all levels to create awareness about Smart City projects and engage with Punekars on a frequent basis.”

Pune holds an important place for both Maharashtra and India and has ranked second in the Smart Cities competition organized by the Government of India. Free Pune Wi-Fi, Smart Public Bicycle Sharing, Smart Placemaking, Smart Street Redesign, SCOC and Smart Elements, Lighthouse and Citizens Engagement- these are few of the successfully implemented projects of Pune Smart City. Pune Smart City is performing a pioneering role by being a mentor and trainer to other Smart Cities in the SPV to SPV Coaching Program initiated by the Govt. of India. Dharamshala (Himachal Pradesh), Faridabad (Haryana), Madurai, Salem, Tiruchirapalli, Tiruppur, Vellore, Erode (all from Tamil Nadu) and Varanasi have followed suite in replication of Pune Smart City model.
