PIFF continues to drive the innovation agenda in Pune

Pune: To accelerate a culture of innovation in the city, Pune Idea Factory Foundation (PIFF) is driving the innovation agenda in Pune. After successfully conducting the NITI-Aayog-Pune Smart City Hackathon, partnering with NITI-Aayog on two recently held global hackathons namely MoveHack & in the City of Austin, Texas and mentoring various Hackathons organized in the city, PIFF is driving the implementation of innovative projects through startups. Continuing with its implementation, PSCDCL’s PIFF has tied up with SPPU’s Center for Innovation, Incubation and Linkage to further boost and implement innovative ideas. A statement of intent (SOI) to this effect was signed by the Vice-Chancellor of SPPU Dr. Nitin Karmalkar and CEO PSCDCL Dr. Rajendra Jagtap in the presence of Chief Knowledge Officer PSCDCL Manojit Bose and SPPU Registrar Dr. Prafulla Pawar among others.

Pune Idea Factory Foundation is a fully owned subsidiary of Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited that has been set up as a non-profit organization dedicated to boost the start-up ecosystem in Pune and drive the innovation agenda.

Pune Smart City has successfully conducted two hackathons in partnership with NITI Aayog and one Hackathon in partnership with the City of Austin, Texas. The Hackathons which focused on various issues on urban governance including urban mobility, citizen safety and security, health, solid waste management and digital connectivity saw an overwhelming participation by delegates from various parts of the country that brainstormed on ideation and provided solutions on innovative startup ideas in meeting day to day urban governance issues.

Dr. Rajendra Jagtap, CEO, PSCDCL commented, ‘Innovation is an important part of a Smart City with various initiatives related to innovation being conceptualized by Pune Smart City and MoHUA. We want to bring in a culture of innovation and this collaboration is an attempt to move towards that.’

Mr. Manojit Bose, CKO, PSCDCL was quoted saying, “Continuing with the agenda to drive innovation, this partnership between PSCDCL and CIIL-SPPU could serve as a platform for budding entrepreneurs to receive mentorship and incubation support. Both the organizations shall jointly pursue several opportunities focused around innovation and hopefully provide an impetus to efforts in this area.”

This partnership is in many ways similar to other strategic partnerships being executed by Pune Smart City and PIFF in line with its efforts to build an eco system of partners to drive data led innovation in the city.
