Spirit of Shiv-Jayanti within Punekars Expressed through Different Art Forms
Girls’ Combat Demo, Martial Arts, Powada and Calligraphy makes Shiv Jayanti Celebrations More Joyful to Punekars
Pune : Thousands of people crowded the famous JM Road yesterday, as city paid a majestic tribute to one of the greatest heroes in the history- Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj- through an ensemble of Indian Martial Arts, Powada and Calligraphy, called Shiv Mudra. The audience was stunned as the spirit of courage and patriotism emerged out of Achyut Palav’s calligraphy on canvas. The daring girls from Shiv Sanskar Pratishthan demonstrated combat techniques through the skillful use of weapons from ShivajiMaharaj’s period. The Powada by Shahir Krushnat Patil, flamed the roaring spirit of Shiv-bhakti within Punekars.
The art installations across the city are receiving a lot of eyeballs and footfalls. People are seen taking selfies at their favorite Pune SmART Week art spots now also with the new Arcs from the ArtArch Fest. Cine-lovers were taken back in time with the timeless classic – Gulacha Ganpati – and were left awestruck by the latest Indian movie to hit the Oscar screening –Dear Molly at NFAI.
Parthajeet Sarma’s design thinking workshop pulled the design enthusiasts from across Pune. Artist Amit Dhane conducted a live portrait painting demo at Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery. The expert talk on Management Strategies of Shivaji by Dr. Ajit Apte created value for people from diverse professional backgrounds. In the Rock-cut Architecture & Caves by Dr. Manjiri Bhalerao highlighted interesting facts on the rock structures that were created across various historic periods.
(for the 20th) Pune SmART Week has inspired the kids from different schools to present their ideas about Smart Pune in the form of large format paintings. In a drawing competition that was held over last weekend saw some wonderful ideas and art work by these children. Today, Pune SmART Week is presenting a selection of these art pieces in a Children’s Smart Pune art installation to be inaugurated at 12.30 at the hands of Sheetal Bapat, founder of Shyamchi Aai Foundation. This unique installation that represents a townscape, would be on display until the 24th of Feb at Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery. A must visit for all children and families.
In the expert talk, Punekars can have an open conversation with world’s foremost authority in languages of India – David Shulman – at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium at 5 pm. His research spans across the history of religion in South India, Indian poetics, Tamil Islam, Dravidian linguistics and Carnatic music, to name a few. This would be immediately followed by the Hindustani classical vocal performance of Pandit Pushkar Lele at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Auditorium at 5:45 pm. An extremely talented artist started singing light music at a very early age of 3 years. He has been known for his “Kumar Gandharva” style of Gayaki (singing). Witness the marvel of a voice that has received appreciation from stalwarts of classical music including Dr. Gangubai Hangal, Late Shri. P.L. Deshpande, Late Pt. Chota Gandharva, Gundecha Brothers, Ustad Sultan Khan, Vidushi Smt. Malini Rajurkar, Pt. Jasraj, Ganasaraswati Smt. Kishori Amonkar, Vidushi Girijadevi and many others.
The highlight of the day, Punekars can board on a poetic journey as renowned poet-duo Vaibhav Joshi & Sandeep Khare along with Singer Savani Shende drive a melodious poetry presentation with Irshaad. Sandeep claims that every Irshaad performance is unique, and the one at Pune SmART Week is no different. The power-packed performance is bound to create a profound impact, as the lyrics and the melody find their way to audience’s hearts. Enjoy this poetic celebration at Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir at 5 pm.
Punekars can also enjoy a live portrait demo by the passionate portraiture artist Manjiri More. Watch her etch out the key features and subtle nuances from the subject’s personality at Raja Ravi Varma Art Gallery at 5 pm. At the Classics and the Contemporary Film Fest watch much talked about film – old classic Devdas at 3 pm and the Mulshi Pattern at 7 pm at NFAI.
At Sambhaji Park there is a special open mic stage for all citizens to showcase their talents…there is a special callout for students and professionals from outside Pune to come join the bandwagon and be part this happening week.
